Additional information: What is Hakata-ori (woven textile)?
A Hakata-ori textile refers to a silk textile which is a local speciality, mainly from the Hakata district of Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
When a Hakata merchant called Yazaemon Mitsuda (1202-1282), came back to Japan with Enni (Benen) from Liu Song Dynasty in 1241 during the Kamakura era, he brought back a Chinese weaving technique which became the beginning of the Hakata-ori textile which has the characteristics of sturdy tightness.

Additional information: What is kikko mon (tortoise shell crest/ Hexagon Pattern)?
It originates from the year 794 and came from a design of a hexangular figure Luo pattern from the Heian era and adding a tortoise-shell pattern to clothes and furniture. A tortoise is admired in Japan and is a symbol for long life. By using a carapace of a turtle for the pattern and crest, it has the meaning of being lucky as the tortoise has geometry and there is balance from the hexagon, which is a symbol for long life in Japan.
